Sonus Increases Mobile Operator Network Options with LTE Calling
LTE Calling Reduces Operator Costs, Increases Subscriber Satisfaction and Supports New Handover Features

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --

Key Takeaways:

  • With the introduction of LTE Calling, Sonus further dispels the myth that a substantial investment in VoLTE and IMS is needed to offer voice and messaging services over the LTE network.
  • Sonus' Wi-Fi and LTE Calling work in tandem, enabling operators to drive profits through reduced subscriber churn, increased minutes of use and decreased roaming costs.
  • Sonus adds new handover support between Wi-Fi Calling, LTE Calling and 2G/3G cellular.

Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a global leader in securing Cloud and real-time communications, introduced today the newest addition to its mobility suite: LTE Calling. This new capability is offered in conjunction with Sonus' Mobile Client, Virtual Mobile Core and SBC SWe, allowing Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) to decrease costs and increase subscriber satisfaction and minutes of use.

Reduced Operator Costs
Sonus' LTE Calling is an extension of Wi-Fi Calling and provides operators with another access option for offloading voice and messaging using the LTE or HSPA data channel. Leveraging the data channel for voice and messaging allows operators to enjoy significant costs savings when it comes to international and in-country roaming as well as reducing the overall voice cost structure. For MVNOs, Sonus' LTE and Wi-Fi Calling are designed to grow cost-savings since a minute of use over Wi-Fi or the LTE/HSPA data channel has a lower cost than a minute of use over the 2G/3G network.

Increased Customer Satisfaction
Sonus' Wi-Fi and LTE Calling solutions integrate with the native dialer on Android devices to maximize usage and provide a seamless calling experience for subscribers. Sonus' Wi-Fi and LTE Calling extends the reach of the mobile operators' network and improves in-building coverage by routing calls over Wi-Fi or LTE/HSPA. This functionality positively impacts coverage and quality of service, reducing subscriber churn.

With the introduction of LTE Calling, Sonus continues to innovate with handover capabilities. Sonus now provides new features to support handover between Wi-Fi Calling, LTE Calling and 2G/3G cellular, improving subscriber satisfaction by delivering a seamless voice experience as the subscriber moves between different access technologies.

Quotes:
"In a highly competitive mobile market, Sonus is helping operators significantly reduce costs and leverage existing LTE and IMS investments, while increasing network coverage, quality and subscriber satisfaction," said Chris Yenney, general manager, Mobility Business Unit, Sonus. "With the introduction of LTE Calling, Sonus continues to pioneer the effort to seamlessly migrate voice and messaging traffic onto the 4G network. Sonus' mobility solutions give mobile operators more ways to save money while increasing their network coverage and providing subscribers a seamless, differentiated experience."

"There are a few options for MNVOs to deliver voice to customers, but most are costly," said Dianne Myers, senior research director, IHS Markit. "By delivering another solution with its LTE and Wi-Fi Calling functionality, Sonus is helping operators cost effectively deliver voice services through a native dialer with handoff between networks. This functionality positively effects subscribers through better coverage and voice quality while taking advantage of the best available broadband wireless or wireline network."
