Telematics and IoT technologies supplied by the partners is supporting the launch of a scooter sharing service by a world leading producer of electric scooters, providing an alternative for personal last-mile mobility in urban areas. The new solution represents another area of emerging growth in the connected vehicle ecosystem. According to the National Household Travel Survey, 35 percent of U.S. vehicle trips were two miles or less in 2017, ideal for mobility-as-a-service applications.

"We're committed to transforming the connected vehicle economy by providing telematics solutions for alternative forms of transportation and improving the user experience," said Michael Burdiek, president and chief executive officer for CalAmp. "We feel a responsibility to not only bring innovative solutions to the market that will address consumer needs for short-term commuting, but also to design connected vehicle ecosystems that will facilitate the sharing economy."

Powered by CalAmp's intelligent telematics devices and PWS' cloud services, the vehicle-sharing model delivers on-demand access to environmentally-friendly vehicle alternatives to run daily errands and make last-mile trips quickly and cost-effectively in urban areas.

CalAmp telematics devices send data to the PWS cloud platform that analyzes valuable utilization data and displays real-time location on the ride-sharing application. With this information, riders can locate a nearby scooter and access mileage, usage and payment information. CalAmp's telematics technology enables micro-mobility providers to quickly locate alternative vehicles and monitor battery usage to better manage their fleet assets.

"The data collected through this partnership will bring a better understanding of how to optimize the efficiency and fleet management of mobility-as-a-service with last-mile vehicles," said Vince Giacomini, CEO, Premier Wireless Solutions. "By analyzing this data, we can unveil benefits behind connected mobility and usher in a new social norm for alternative vehicle commuting that works for municipalities, providers and commuters alike."
