HOD HASHARON, Israel, February 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
Altair Semiconductor (altair-semi.com), a leading provider of LTE chipsets, today announced that its ALT1160 CAT-1 LTE for IoT chipset has been certified to run over T-Mobile's 4G LTE network, and has been added as an option for T-Mobile's IoT access packs, which combine simple IoT pricing with industry-leading CAT-1 chips.
Altair's ALT1160 CAT-1 LTE chipset certification on the T-Mobile network will improve product makers' time-to-market and reduce the cost associated with the introduction of new LTE devices on the network.
"Completing certification with T-Mobile is a significant achievement for Altair, and we look forward to supporting the roll-out of new LTE-optimized devices on their network," said Eran Eshed, Co-founder and VP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for Altair. "This latest certification attests to the quality and market value of our solution, and further enhances our leading position in the U.S. LTE market."
Altair's ALT1160 CAT-1 chipset features downlink speeds of up to 10Mbps and extremely low power consumption. The IoT-optimized chipset is highly integrated and incorporates elements such as an advanced on-chip power management unit, integrated DDR memory and a low-power MCU subsystem with a secure application execution environment.
The chipset will now be included in T-Mobile's IoT Access packs, which give new and existing customers a simplified wireless solution for launching IoT devices. For a limited time, customers can get unlimited data at 64kbps for just $20 per year per device, with up to $16 per certified module covered via a bill credit from T-Mobile upon activation.
"The wireless industry wants to make everything complicated, including connectivity platforms for the Internet of Things," said Doug Chartier, senior vice president, MVNO, M2M and IoT at T-Mobile. "Our IoT Access packs provide customers with a simple, low-cost solution for launching their devices on our 4G LTE nationwide network."
