Mounds View, MN – February 27, 2018 – Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of M2M and IoT devices, will show a suite of Arm® Mbed™ OS enabled communication modules for the Internet of Things in the Arm exhibit Hall 4-140 at Embedded World in Nuremberg, Germany, February 27-March 1, 2018.
The MultiTech MultiConnect® Dragonfly™ and Dragonfly™ Nano cellular systems on module as well as the MultiTech MultiConnect® mDot™ and xDot™ LoRa Alliance Certified™ Long-Range, Low-Power LoRa® modules all incorporate the Arm Mbed OS programming platform to allow for rapid prototyping to production deployment and scalability. With integrated ST Micro Cortex®-M processors on a module that is industry approved and regulatory certified, developers can host their application and have access to a full suite of wireless and wired interfaces for connecting sensors or other remote assets to the cloud.
As the first industry certified and deployment ready Arm Mbed cellular module listed on os.mbed.com, applications can be written and compiled quickly online or offline using developer friendly libraries, downloaded and hosted within the Dragonfly or Dot modules.
Arm Mbed OS is a Real Time Operating System for IoT devices, containing libraries to manage Events & Threads, IoT networking and communication technologies and device security. Crucially, the OS provides APIs for rapid application development in a way that will be familiar to any web or app developer.
The advantage of Mbed OS running on target devices such as the MultiConnect Dragonfly 4G-LTE or LoRaWAN™ Dot modules is significant reduction in complexity and time to market. Enabling enterprise computing professionals to focus solely on application development solving business challenges by utilizing pre-developed MultiTech libraries that provide native wireless and telecoms middleware protocol stacks, sensor to cloud drivers and remote device management for a faster less complicated path to designing IoT edge applications, that does not require deep domain expertise in embedded electronics or cellular and LoRaWAN wireless communication protocols, all in an industry and regulatory approved smart module.
For a growing number of businesses today, resources and effort are devoted to data collection rather than to realizing actionable data and decision making at the edge. The highly centralized data management systems relied upon today cause opportunities for business process improvement to be missed, where businesses can rapidly accelerate processes, reduce data storage and data transfer costs, and improve system resilience by decentralizing IoT data processing to the Edge of their networks.
“In our own case, Arm Mbed OS enabled us to make product changes even including the processor itself, without losing development time – improving our own agility and allowing us to bring products to market on schedule where such a change before might have set us back months,” said Daniel Quant, Vice President of Product Management and Strategic Marketing. “We’re not alone. Since we launched our Mbed enabled devices, we have accumulated nearly 3500 developers who have collectively imported our libraries more than 16 thousand times to innovate and deploy unique IoT applications quicker than they could before.”
