Mobile World Congress, Barcelona 2016 — Operators need to expand their network capacity in order to handle rapidly increasing mobile data traffic. Some operators do this by implementing LTE-U. Rohde & Schwarz is the first test equipment manufacturer to offer LTE-U test cases in line with the applicable test specifications. The R&S TS8980 RF conformance test system can now be used to certify mobile user equipment for LTE-U. The R&S TS8980 also supports carrier acceptance tests that cover operator-specific LTE-U test requirements.
LTE-U allows network operators to use carrier aggregation to add more downlink carriers in the unlicensed 5 GHz-spectrum to supplement their exclusively licensed bands. They can offer their customers more bandwidth and faster download speeds. 3GPP plans to specify this technology as licensed-assisted access (LAA) for LTE release 13 and higher.
Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate a setup for LTE-U conformance tests with an LTE-U capable DUT at Mobile World Congress in hall 6, booth C40.
