SYDNEY, Feb. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- NetComm Wireless Limited (ASX: NTC) today announced it has joined the CBRS Alliance, an organization dedicated to the development and adoption of LTE-based solutions utilizing the shared spectrum of the 3550-3700 MHz band (3.5 GHz) Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) band.
The shared spectrum rules adopted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will release the additional spectrum needed to meet surging wireless demand, and accelerate the mass deployment of wireless broadband in hospitals, sporting venues, retail and industrial facilities by driving both in-building and outdoor coverage and capacity expansion using LTE-based CBRS solutions.
NetComm Wireless believes that the 3.5 GHz band will overcome network management challenges and enable opportunities that reduce costs, increase the speed of deployment and optimize performance and quality of service by facilitating Wireless-as-a-Service.
"The shared spectrum market presents significant opportunities for mobile network operators looking to push their LTE network closer to customers and provide a differentiated offering. We look forward to collaborating with the CBRS Alliance to deliver a new generation of wireless capability," said Jim Berridge, Executive Vice President, Strategic Accounts, NetComm Wireless.
"Cellular data demands are escalating at a remarkable rate, and most of that usage is happening indoors where the delivery of consistent cellular coverage and capacity presents a challenge for network operators. NetComm Wireless is committed to extending the trusted zone and enabling network-wide control, and we believe that spectrum sharing will provide a distinct competitive advantage," said Steve Collins, Chief Technology Officer, NetComm Wireless.
"The CBRS Alliance aims to enable a robust ecosystem towards making LTE-based CBRS solutions available and we are pleased to join our industry partners to drive the uptake of cost-effective LTE CBRS services as wireless data demands intensify," said Timo Brouwer, Chief Operating Officer, NetComm Wireless.
